There are a lot of fabulous restaurants on Maui for all tastes and preferences. These are our favorites, broken down by areas around the island.
*We reccomend making a reservation ahead of time for restaurants marked with an asterisk.
Note: Opentable.com is a wonderful site to book places to eat ahead of time for dinner!
Wailea / Kihei Restaurants
A brewery with a view! Come here to try some local brews and watch the sun set while listening to live music. They have some games you can play too. They often have food trucks outside - or you can walk down to Cow Pig Bun for an out-of-this-world burger.
The closest restaurant to SkyPoint - a 3 minute drive. Great food, a very nice ambiance and a fantastic happy hour. . It's a popular spot, so we suggest getting there early or making a reservation.
This spot is part of the Fairmont Hotel, and has beautiful sunset views. Their happy hour (5-6pm) is very fun and lively, with excellent food and drink deals.
A new restaurant offering great locally grown food and a pleasant, modern ambiance. Delicious food, and another great spot for happy hour (5-6pm).
Great, spot for lunch in Kihei. Delicious sandwiches and salads. Casual, quick, reasonably priced and easy. Most ingredients are sourced from local farmers as well!
This is a wonderful natural grocery store offering a great salad bar and wide variety of premade foods. Great for grabbing lunch to go, or picking up any organic groceries you need.
Amazing fish tacos, definitely the best in our area. Their new location is a very short drive from the property. A great spot for lunch!
Excellent Asian Fusion and part of The Fairmont hotel. Fun fact: Greg designed the architecture for this restaurant.
Great Italian food. Of all these restaurants, the best outdoor dining experience, just up from the beach by the Four Seasons pool.
Upcountry Restaurants
This French bakery and restaurant in Kula has some of the best pastries in the world! A great stop to grab breakfast after watching sunrise on Haleakala. Closed on Tuesdays.
One of the greatest hidden gems on Maui. The menu is as extensive as the daily specials list. They do not take reservations, but if you have to wait a few minutes it’s worth it. It is a BYOB wine and beer only location.
Incredible sushi. Arguably the best and most fresh on the island. Service is on island time, but it will be worth the wait. The poke salad is out of this world if you like raw fish.
Lahaina / West Side Restaurants
One of our absolute favorites on Maui. We recommended making a reservation as they are always busy. Excellent Asian dishes and noodles in a simple & beautiful space, with reasonable prices. A fantastic spot for lunch or dinner if you are planning a trip to the Lahaina area.
If you are driving out to the West Side, you must stop here! It is about halfway to Lahaina and a great way to break up the drive. Amazing pies, pastries, coffee, and delicious sandwiches.
Stunning views of the water combined with excellent Mexican food. The plates are enormous and delicious. Cannot go wrong here.
This is a great spot for live music and oysters. Always a fun time.
Delicious and authentic Italian pizza place. The owner prides himself in his Italian heritage and ships in his flour straight from Italy. You won’t be disappointed in any of their personal pizzas or service.
Paia / North Shore Restaurants
The ambiance is upscale Maui, and the fish is fresh caught daily. They even tell you who caught it on the menu. Located on the north shore, Mama’s has its own little beach and amazing drinks and desserts. To us, this is THE “special occasion” restaurant. It is quite fun to have a late lunch (like 3 pm) here or an early dinner. Try to get a “front row” table looking out into their private beach.
Located in Haiku town, this restaurant has perhaps the best Japanese food on the island, and offers a very local experience. Amazing sake, sushi, and the salmon Nuka bowl is out of this world.
Our favorite grocery story on the island – it’s where all the locals go. Many delicious options for prepared food, and the place to buy groceries if you make it up to the North Shore. Also a great spot to grab a sandwich for the journey out to Hana.
Delicious food! The fish burgers are a classic. Expect to walk in and be unsure you’ll get a seat, but trust the process. People don’t linger after eating, and by the time you get to the front of the line and order, a table will have opened for you.
Always bustling! Great ambiance, supportive of the local community, delicious pizza and specialty drinks. A staple in Paia town.
Delicious informal favorite of locals for years.
Kahului / Wailuku
Tucked into the West Maui Mountains, The Mill House offers an upscale dining or early happy hour drink experience with beautiful views and sunsets peaking through the lush greenery.
A fantastic lunch spot offering Chef Sheldon’s (a local celebrity) take on Hawaiian style dishes. Always packed, reasonably priced and delicious. Open 10am – 2pm, and they often sell out before closing time so arriving earlier is a great idea.
A very casual dining experience, expect to wait a bit if you’re taking a table. They do offer takeaway as well if you order in advance. The food is simple - no frills and delicious.
Across from Costco there are a group of food trucks that have started becoming a staple on the island. Best to go for an early lunch, as they close as soon as they sell out. Like Poke?, Fresh off the Boat, and Thai Mee Up are three staples. All are amazing. Try the coconut shrimp curry at Thai Mee Up!
